Designed by the golfing legend, Jack Nicklaus, and opened in 1993, the course at Montecastillo Golf Club is renowned as one of the best in Europe and is ranked the 53rd best course on the entire planet. Even Mr Nicklaus regards this course as one of his best designs.

After hosting the Turespana Masters in 1994, the club then welcomed the Volvo Masters, the flagship event of the PGA European Tour, from 1997 to 2001. The pedigree of this challenging course is never in doubt!

Costa de la Luz golf holiday – Montecastillo Golf Club

Sprawling over a vast area of 160 hectares Montecastillo Golf Club has everything. With the early holes challenging your game with their length, water in play on many of the holes around the turn and then steep slopes and tee shots over great voids towards the end of the 18 this is a true test of your golf game.

The fairways and greens at Montecastillo are always in great shape, with putting on the huge greens really testing this vital skill - 3 putts are unfortunately to be expected by most golfers!

A full range of practice facilities are of course available including 75 covered bays at the driving range, 3000sq metres of grass practice tees, short game area, putting and chipping greens. Montecastillo is an ideal location for a tuition trip with your club professional who can arrange access for your group to the superbly equipped private academy.

Please note that for pre-11am tee times the use of a buggy is compulsory, but can be booked with Golf de la Luz at discounted rates.

Paul Burr said "The usual comments apply about the noise from the race track, but it doesn't detract too much from the enjoyment levels. Great course in very good condition, challenging to score on, and hilly layout that's a tough walk, particularly because of the distances between greens and tees. Course not busy so plenty of time to admire the views and rest. It's also not the easiest course to find as it's not well signposted off the motorway. Definitely a recommended course to play though."

Paul Saxon said "played again 2008 6 people on the course no sat nav and probs getting practice balls, but again fabulous going again 2009 club sandwich excellent"

Alec Campbell said "Looking back a very good course. It's Classic Nicklaus but perhaps relying on its reputation at the moment. The 18th is a great finishing hole. The course is long but open enough and the Greens are very quick so its easy to three putt. If you want a buggy you need to book one as they ran out. It's hilly and there are some hikes between holes but walking round is not a problem if you are relatively fit and enjoy that part of the game."

Paul Saxon said "Great test of golf play off white tees and buggy a must one of the most difficult courses around but more than worth a visit a must do for every golfer we went 2007 and will go again Feb 2008"

Mrs M Rimmer said "We plyed it in Aug 07 and were disappointed with some of the conditions especially the water - it looked messy. We didn't get a buggy which was a big mistake (we carried!) as there are huge long walks and climbs from greens to next tees. Nice to say we've played it but wouldn't hurry back!
