Castro Marim Golf Club, situated just over the Portuguese border from Spain, has spectacular views of the Algarvian Mountains, the Atlantic Ocean, the Guadiana River and the Castro Marim nature reserve. Perched high on a hillside, the course has been cleverly carved out of the local topography.

This superb course with its lightning greens rewards accurate, rather than long, play from the tee. A great golfing challenge, and if the wind blows…. The course offers 3 nine-hole loops - the "Atlantic", the "Guadiana" and the "Grouse".

The castle-style club house has sweeping views over the entire course and the Spanish/Portuguese border and provides a fantastic setting for your 19th hole enjoyment.

The new 9 hole loop (the Grouse Course) at Castro Marim Golf Club opened on the 30th April 2008 and was inaugurated by the Koninginnedag (Queen's Day) Tournament taking place over the new layout.  The par-3 sixth hole features a "beach" of white sand and palm trees around the green.  The new, longer 9-hole loop is a worthy addition to the golf offering at Castro Marim and complements the original 18 with sloping, funnel-like fairways, large variations in elevation through the fairways and greens, and spectacular views over the surrounding countryside and down to the coast.

Due to the hilly nature of this course we would recommend the use of a buggy for all but the fittest golfers! Buggies are available for rental on the day of your round at Castro Marim; we can pre-book these for you if you wish - just ask!

Jeff Potter said "Brilliant course, we played there in twice September as we do each year and we have already booked next years trip.Only 11 months to go before we come back."

Philip Dobson said "A course made up of 3 nines. Each 9 is interesting and challenging. The course in general was in good condition and the staff made us fel welcome. I would recommend it."

Leslie Clarke said "27 holes with 3 distinctive 9's. We tee'd off at the same time each day so found it difficult to get to play all 3 x 9's but the staff managed to alter a couple of our tee times to let us play all the 9's. A proper golf course - not a resort course.
Challenging enough for me (7 hc) but not too difficult for my wife (relative beginner). Played 5 times in a week and pleased we did but probably won't go back but wouldn't put anyone off going if they were planning to."

Peter Farnsworth said "I thought the new Grouse Course was excellent".

Sanjay Shah said "Fantastic course, excellent greens and baize like fairways! Very hilly, buggies a must especially as over zealous course marshall has no qualms about telling you that you're 10 minutes behind plan! (when on the 15 green). Excellent club house with panaromic view, great quality yet simple meals. Complimentary shower gel and towels make this an excellent last day course en route back to Faro airport".

Mike Ward said "Castro Marim was covered in wild flowers at Easter. Atlantic 9 holes was closed though for maintenance so only Guadiana and Gorse were played (twice). Beautiful course, suitable for all handicappers. Buggies were most expensive. Drive up to the course from the road is long and not pretty. Recommended".

Des Orrin said "Excellent course, good facilities. A course that you had to think your way round. The course was in excellent condition. Also found the GolfShots video helpful."

Debbie Hurrell said "A good course. Very hilly! Buggy needed. Still would consider it a great course though.

Chris Maddison said "We first played Castro 3 yrs ago and just didn't get it. It all seemed a bit up & down (literally) and a very bizarre design. Having returned for a 2nd visit (June 08) we all enjoyed it a lot more. It is a short course compared to many in the area and the layout is very unusual and very hilly but once you understand that this is a course where you have to plot your way around then it is much more fun.  The emphasis at Castro is on the short game with many raised greens and fairly swift putting surface.
Still not our favourite course in the area (Costa Esuri or Quinta da Cima) but it offers great value and is in lovely condition.

Neville Wootton said "This course is stunning! Every hole is different, so no regimental up, down, up, down golf. Spectacular as well, with great views and a few wildlife conservation areas thrown in. We played Benamor, Quinta de Cima and this one over Easter this year(2007). All five of us, men and women, with differing handicaps, enjoyed Castro Marim the best. And it was the cheapest! Get there now before it gets too popular, as I am sure it will."

Frank Walsh said "We were so impressed with this course, the clubhouse and location that we bought one of the 'village houses' during our visit,  I would agree the first 9 holes are hilly and exhausting, and that's from a person who is used to a hilly Yorkshire course. We intend to buy our own golf buggy when we go to live there.  We can't wait! It's a fabulous area, and we have been to Hawaii, USA, Canada, Norway, Italy, Spain, Germany, Thailand, Singapore, Mexico, Tunisia and Morocco during our travels. It's the first place we've wanted to buy a future home in. Enough said!!!!!"

David Greenlees said "Without doubt this is the best golf course I have played on in my many years of golf. I will definitely play this course again."
